Because C10100 lacks deoxidizers, it relies on its less than 5 ppm oxygen content for stability. However, the surface can still develop a thin film of cuprous oxide (Cu2O) during machining or storage. To ensure a successful bond, you must chemically activate the surface immediately before joining.
Why is standard degreasing not enough for C10100?
While solvent degreasing removes oils, it does nothing to address the "passive" oxide layer that naturally forms on C10100 Plate, Sheet. This oxide layer has a much higher melting point than the base metal and prevents the brazing filler from "wetting" the copper.

Vapor Degrease: Remove all traces of sulfur-based cutting fluids.
Acid Pickle: Immerse in a dilute Nitric Acid (HNO3) or Sulfuric Acid (H2SO4) bath for 30-60 seconds. This strips the oxide layer and reveals the 99.99% pure copper structure.
DI Water Rinse: Rinse thoroughly with Deionized (DI) water. Any residual acid will cause rapid re-oxidation.
