What Is TP1/C12000 Copper metal?

What is TP1/C12000 copper?

TP1 Phosphorus-Deoxidized Copper is a copper alloy with excellent electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and weldability, widely used in electronics, communications, power transmission, and other industries. Its low residual phosphorus content gives it superior electrical and thermal conductivity compared to other phosphorus-deoxidized copper types, such as TP2. Due to its unique physical and chemical properties, TP1 copper offers distinct application advantages.

Chemical Composition of TP1 Phosphorus-Deoxidized Copper

The main component of TP1 phosphorus-deoxidized copper is copper (Cu), with small additions of other elements to enhance its properties. The chemical composition is as follows:

Copper (Cu): Balance
Copper is the primary component, providing excellent electrical and thermal conductivity.

Phosphorus (P): 0.005%–0.012%
Phosphorus acts as a deoxidizer, helping to reduce oxygen content and prevent oxide formation. Compared to TP2, TP1 has lower phosphorus content, resulting in better electrical and thermal conductivity.

Tin (Sn): ≤0.002%
Tin is present in trace amounts, primarily to prevent oxidation and maintain alloy stability, especially under high temperature and humid conditions.

Zinc (Zn): ≤0.005%
Zinc exists as a minor impurity and does not significantly affect electrical conductivity.

Lead (Pb): ≤0.005%
Lead is another trace impurity with negligible impact on material performance.

Iron (Fe): ≤0.01%
Iron is a common impurity in copper alloys; excessive iron can reduce conductivity and mechanical properties, so its content is strictly controlled.

Antimony (Sb): ≤0.002%
Antimony has minimal effect on alloy properties at such low levels.

Sulfur (S): ≤0.005%
Sulfur is controlled to avoid adverse effects on weldability.

Arsenic (As): ≤0.002%
Arsenic is restricted due to its potential negative impact on conductivity and corrosion resistance.

Bismuth (Bi): ≤0.002%
Bismuth is another trace impurity, limited to 0.002% or less.

Oxygen (O): ≤0.01%
Low oxygen content enhances electrical conductivity and extends service life.

Mechanical Properties of TP1 Phosphorus-Deoxidized Copper

TP1 copper exhibits high tensile strength and good workability, particularly in welding and cold bending. Key mechanical properties include:

Tensile Strength (σb): ≥315 MPa
TP1 copper can withstand significant tensile stress without fracture, making it suitable for applications under mechanical load.

Sample Size: Nominal outer diameter ≤100 mm
Tensile testing is typically performed on longitudinal samples of tubular products with diameters up to 100 mm.

Physical and Chemical Characteristics of TP1 Phosphorus-Deoxidized Copper

Electrical and Thermal Conductivity
TP1 offers outstanding electrical and thermal conductivity. The low phosphorus content enhances conductivity, making it ideal for high-current and high-power transmission, as well as applications requiring efficient heat dissipation.

Weldability
TP1 exhibits excellent weldability, with minimal oxide formation during welding, ensuring high-quality joints. Its low phosphorus content reduces susceptibility to "hydrogen embrittlement" compared to other copper alloys.

Cold Bending Performance
TP1 copper shows superior cold bending performance, allowing for deformation without cracking. Its good plasticity supports the manufacturing of complex-shaped components.

Corrosion Resistance
TP1 offers good corrosion resistance in atmospheric and aqueous environments, particularly under humid conditions, where it resists oxidation and corrosion effectively.

High-Temperature Suitability
While TP1 copper has good thermal stability, prolonged exposure to high temperatures in oxidizing atmospheres should be avoided. It can be processed and used in reducing atmospheres, but excessive temperatures may degrade its properties.

Main Application Areas of TP1 Phosphorus-Deoxidized Copper

Electrical and Electronics Industry
Used in power transmission and electronic contact materials, such as wires, cables, connectors, and conductive components.

Welding Industry
Employed in welding joints, welding equipment, and electrical devices due to its superior weldability and joint reliability.

Communications Industry
Essential for signal and current-carrying devices requiring long-term performance stability.

Automotive and Aerospace Industries
Applied in wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant components, benefiting from its durability and workability.

Other Industrial Equipment
Used in heating systems, refrigeration units, and various industrial machinery due to its high strength and corrosion resistance.
