Copper is a pure, single metal, and every item made from it has the same properties. Brass, on the other hand, is an alloy of copper, zinc and other metals. Color Identification

It is a pure metal with a reddish-brown surface, check for yellow brass. Brass is composed of copper and zinc. Different proportions of zinc in brass produce different colors. For the most part, the commonly used brass has a soft yellow or yellow-brown appearance similar to bronze. Another type of brass has a greenish-yellow appearance, and this alloy is known as "gilded metal". It has limited use in ammunition and decoration. Check for red or orange brass. When the metal of a brass alloy consists of at least 85% copper, it may look reddish-brown or orange. This type of brass is primarily used for decorative fasteners, jewelry and pipes. So, any hint of yellow, orange or gold indicates that the metal is brass and not copper. Identify other brasses. Brass with a high zinc content can appear bright gold, white, gray, or even yellowish-white. These types of alloys are not common because they are not cuttable. Other methods of identification
Use of sound: Since copper is a soft metal, it produces a soft, rounded sound when struck against other parts; a test conducted in 1987 described the sound of copper as "dead", while brass produces a clear, crisp tone. Without experience, it's difficult to tell in this way. The good news is that learning this method over time is useful, especially for an antique or scrap collecting hobbyist. This method is best for a reliable method. Another method is to look for stamped codes. For the most part, brass items produced for industrial purposes usually have identifying codes. In the European and North American systems, brass instruments have codes that begin with a "C" followed by several numbers. In most cases, brass is unmarked.

It is suitable for food grades in the food processing industry where protection against microbial and bacterial infections is required.
