90/10 Copper-Nickel Tubing
GNEE manufactures this copper-nickel tubing, offering excellent resistance to seawater corrosion, as well as high resistance to erosion-corrosion and air impact corrosion. The addition of iron allows 90/10 copper-nickel tubing to perform comparable to 70/30 copper-nickel tubing in seawater heat exchangers. These tubes offer good strength and ductility at room temperature, while exhibiting relatively high strength and other mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.
These copper-nickel tubing is widely used in condensers, coolers, and heat exchangers, where corrosion and erosion resistance are critical while maintaining high thermal conductivity. It is particularly well-suited for marine environments. It forms a multi-layer protective film in flowing seawater, resisting fouling by marine organisms.
These copper-nickel tubing is available in a variety of outer diameters, wall thicknesses, and tempering conditions to achieve the desired mechanical properties and grain size. The mechanical and dimensional characteristics of our products meet the most demanding orders requiring tight tolerances.

The Transition to Copper-Nickel Alloy Tubing
Copper has demonstrated many advantageous properties since its early days. It is easily bendable and offers excellent corrosion resistance, but concerns have been raised regarding its low corrosion fatigue strength. The introduction of copper-nickel alloys offers corrosion resistance similar to copper, with higher overall strength and improved fatigue strength. Their good formability makes them easy to flare and bend. Although the metal costs more than steel alternatives, copper-nickel alloys are attractive due to their longer service life, trouble-free installation, and high reliability.
Properties of Copper-Nickel Brake Tubing
Copper-nickel alloys used for brake tubing typically contain 10% nickel, with iron and manganese additions of 1.4% and 0.8%, respectively. They conform to ASTM B466 (American Society for Testing and Materials), which specifies dimensions, tensile strength, and yield strength. Its formability and internal cleanliness meet the specifications of SAE J527, ASTM A254, and SMMT C5B (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders). In addition, the alloy meets the requirements of ISO 4038 (International Organization for Standardization) and SAE J1047 for pressure vessels, fabrication, and corrosion resistance.

Corrosion Resistance
Before its use as a brake pipe material, C70600 alloy had been used for many years in ships, power plant condensers, and tanker hydraulic piping, demonstrating excellent salt resistance. Early testing showed that the copper-nickel alloy's burst pressure resistance was nearly identical to that of steel. However, after exposure to salt spray for over 180 days, the steel's burst strength decreased significantly, while the copper alloy maintained its excellent corrosion resistance.
After six months of immersion in a moist, salty mud, brazed steel pipes corroded severely, leading to perforation of the pipe wall; however, the copper-nickel alloy tubes only showed general surface corrosion. ISO 4038 and SAE J1047, referencing ISO 3768, specify a minimum burst pressure of 110 MPa after 96 hours in a neutral salt spray environment. Swedish standards require corrosion resistance of at least 25% that of zinc. In all cases, C70600 alloy easily exceeded the corrosion resistance requirements.
