What Is C61400?
C61400 is an aluminum bronze alloy specified in the American standards ASTM B150 (rod and bar), B169 (plate and sheet) and B171 (seamless tube). It is NOT a grade of ASTM B111, which covers condenser and heat-exchanger tubes (grades such as C68700, C70600, C71500). The alloy uses a copper matrix reinforced by aluminum and iron, combining excellent mechanical properties with corrosion and wear resistance for high-load, high-wear industrial service.

Aluminum forms a protective alumina layer and strengthens the matrix; iron refines the grain size and enhances wear resistance.

Corrosion and Other Properties
Excellent corrosion resistance in seawater, acidic and alkaline environments; resists erosion corrosion and cavitation erosion.
High strength approaching medium-carbon steel in some tempers.
Low thermal conductivity for a copper alloy, suitable for high-temperature friction conditions.
Non-magnetic, suitable for electrical equipment.
Applications
Marine engineering: ship propellers, pump and valve components, seawater pipelines.
Heavy industry: wear-resistant bearings, gears and bushings under high loads and frequent friction.
Chemical equipment: sealing rings and agitators resistant to acid and alkali corrosion.
Energy: fasteners and turbine components in nuclear and thermal power plants.
Processing and Precautions
Forming: suitable for hot forging, cold working and precision casting, but the aluminum content must be controlled to avoid hot brittleness.
Welding: specialized consumables are required, with preheating above 300 °C to reduce the risk of cracking.
