ASTM B280 C11000 ETP Copper Pipe: Composition and Properties

What Is C11000

C11000 electrolytic copper tube is a high-purity copper alloy with a main component of more than 99.9 percent copper, offering excellent electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and mechanical properties. This material is widely used in electrical, electronic, construction, industrial, and aerospace fields due to its high purity and low impurity content.

Chemical Composition

Copper plus silver is at least 99.90 percent, with impurities limited to tin 0.002 percent, zinc 0.005 percent, lead 0.005 percent, nickel 0.005 percent, iron 0.005 percent, antimony 0.002 percent, sulfur 0.005 percent, arsenic 0.002 percent, bismuth 0.001 percent, and oxygen 0.06 percent maximum, with other impurities total 0.1 percent.

Mechanical Properties

In the annealed condition the tensile strength is 235 to 275 MPa with yield of 70 to 100 MPa, elongation of 40 to 50 percent, and hardness of 40 to 75 HV. In the cold-worked condition the tensile strength is 290 to 410 MPa with yield of 100 to 390 MPa, elongation of 5 to 10 percent, and hardness of 80 to 110 HV. Elastic modulus is 115 to 117 GPa, shear strength 150 to 230 MPa, and Poisson's ratio 0.34.

Standards

C11000 tubes comply with ASTM B280 for air conditioning and refrigeration equipment, JIS H3300, EN 12735-1, AS/NZS 1571, EN 13348, and ANSI/ASME B16.22. Size ranges cover outer diameters from 2 mm to 914 mm, wall thicknesses from 0.2 mm to 120 mm, and lengths from 1 to 6 meters.

Applications

C11000 ETP copper pipe is used in air conditioning and refrigeration systems, plumbing, electrical conductors and busbars, heat exchangers, and general industrial piping where high conductivity and formability are required.
