Admiralty Brass (C44300) vs. Naval Brass (C46400)

UNS C44300 Admiralty Brass Tube PDF

Admiralty Brass (C44300) vs. Naval Brass (C46400)

Admiralty Brass (C44300) is more resistant to dezincification and is ideal for applications involving corrosive water like heat exchangers and condenser tubing, while Naval Brass (C46400) is stronger and harder due to a higher zinc and tin content, making it better for structural components like fasteners and tube sheets. The main difference lies in their composition: Admiralty Brass has added tin and a small amount of arsenic to inhibit dezincification, whereas Naval Brass contains a higher percentage of zinc and tin.

Admiralty Brass (C44300)

Composition: Approximately 70-73% copper, 0.9-1.2% tin, with a small amount of arsenic (to prevent dezincification), and the rest is zinc.

Key Property: Superior resistance to dezincification corrosion, especially in seawater, fresh, or brackish water.

Best For: Applications where corrosion resistance in water is critical, such as heat exchangers, condenser tubes, and other marine tubes.

Naval Brass (C46400)

Composition: Approximately 60% copper, 39.2% zinc, and 0.8% tin.

Key Property: Higher strength and rigidity compared to Admiralty Brass due to its higher zinc and tin content.

Best For: Structural applications where strength is the primary requirement, including fasteners (screws and bolts), propellers, shafts, and tube plates.
