Details of ASTM B111 C44300 Arsenic Admiralty Brass
C44300 is an arsenic admiralty brass, a copper-zinc-tin-arsenic (Cu-Zn-Sn-As) alloy. It offers excellent seawater corrosion resistance and is widely used in ships, heat exchangers, and marine engineering.
Basic Introduction to ASTM B111 C44300 Copper Pipe
UNS Number: C44300
Type: Admiralty Brass (Arsenic-Resistant Dezincification Brass)
Alternative Name: Arsenic-Added Admiralty Brass
Main Features of ASTM B111 C44300 Copper Hose:
Excellent seawater corrosion resistance (Arsenic inhibits dezincification corrosion)
Good heat transfer performance (High thermal conductivity)
Moderate strength, suitable for hot and cold working
Fair weldability (Special welding consumables required)
Common Forms: Tubes, plates, rods, condenser tubes
Chemical Composition of ASTM B111 C44300 15mm Copper Pipe (ASTM B111 Standard)
| Element | Composition (% by Weight) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Copper (Cu) | 70.0 - 73.0 | Remainder (including specified additives) |
| Zinc (Zn) | Remainder | Primary alloying element |
| Tin (Sn) | 0.8 - 1.2 | |
| Arsenic (As) | 0.02 - 0.06 | |
| Lead (Pb) | 0.07 max | |
| Iron (Fe) | 0.06 max | |
| Other Impurities | 0.15 max each | |
| Total Impurities | 0.50 max | Sum of all impurities |
Effects of Arsenic (As):
Significantly inhibits dezincification corrosion (selective dissolution of zinc), extending service life in seawater.
Works synergistically with tin to enhance corrosion resistance.

Main properties of ASTM B111 C44300 copper plumbing
(1) Mechanical properties
| Temper Designation | Condition | Tensile Strength min. | Yield Strength (0.5% EUL) min. | Elongation in 2 in. min. (%) | ||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ksi | MPa | ksi | MPa | |||
| O61 | Annealed | 40 | 275 | 15 | 105 | 45 |
| H55 | Light Drawn | 45 | 310 | 25 | 170 | 30 |
| H58 | Drawn | 50 | 345 | 35 | 240 | 20 |
| H80 | Hard Drawn | 60 | 415 | 50 | 345 | 8 |
(2) Physical properties
Density: 8.53 g/cm³
Electrical conductivity: ~28% IACS (equivalent to ordinary brass)
Thermal conductivity: ~120 W/(m·K) (suitable for heat exchangers)
Melting point: ~915-940°C
(3) Corrosion resistance
Excellent resistance to seawater corrosion (better than ordinary brass, close to copper-nickel alloy).
Resistant to dezincification corrosion (the addition of arsenic is the key).
Resistant to fresh water and steam corrosion (suitable for condensers and boiler tubes).
Not resistant to strong acid (such as HCl) and ammonia environments (stress corrosion cracking may occur).
Typical applications of ASTM B111 C44300 type k copper pipe
Shipbuilding and marine engineering: condenser tubes, seawater pipelines, ship heat exchangers.
Power industry: power plant condenser and evaporator tubes. Chemical Equipment: Seawater-resistant valves and pump housings.
Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC): Cooler tubes and heat sinks.
Processing and Heat Treatment of ASTM B111 C44300 Type L Copper
Hot Working: Suitable for hot rolling and hot forging (temperature range 650-800°C).
Cold Working: Suitable for cold drawing and cold bending, but requires intermediate annealing (600-700°C) to restore plasticity.
Welding:
Use fusion welding with caution (prone to porosity; brazing or silver soldering is recommended).
Using CuSn6 or CuSi3 welding wire can improve weldability.
Machining: More difficult than ordinary brass (due to tin and arsenic content), requiring sharp tools.
