Common Types of Brass
Brass can be classified into several different types, the main ones including C22000, C26000, C28000, C36000, C44300, and C46400. These types are described in detail below.
1. C22000
C22000 is a brass with excellent weldability, corrosion resistance, and toughness. Its primary components are copper and zinc, with approximately 0.1% lead. It is commonly used in various decorative and ornamental parts.
2. C26000
C26000 is a copper alloy with a higher hardness. Unlike C22000, C26000 does not contain lead. Instead, it contains small amounts of manganese and iron, and a controlled copper-to-zinc ratio, resulting in improved corrosion resistance. C26000 is commonly used in the manufacture of metal pipes, electrical components, and decorative parts.
3. C28000
C28000 is a zinc-containing copper alloy similar to C26000, but with a higher copper content and a lower hardness. C28000 is commonly used in the manufacture of sheet metal, some tableware and utensils, and electrical wiring.
4. C36000
C36000 is a commonly used free-cutting brass material with a high lead content and good mechanical properties, making it particularly suitable for machining on automatic lathes. C36000 is commonly used in the manufacture of various mechanical parts, such as pipes, valves, and hardware.
5. C44300
C44300 is a copper alloy with a high copper content and a low aluminum content. It offers excellent corrosion and wear resistance and is commonly used in the manufacture of seawater valves and pressurized steam heaters.
6. C46400
C46400 is a lead-containing copper alloy with a lower hardness, good workability, and toughness. It is commonly used in the manufacture of ships, automobiles, construction, and chemical equipment.

How to Distinguish Different Types of Brass
Brass is difficult to accurately distinguish based on appearance, so we need to identify it based on its chemical composition and specific uses.
1. Chemical Composition: Using chemical analysis methods to analyze brass can reveal its detailed chemical composition, enabling accurate differentiation.
2. Applications: Different types of brass have different uses, and understanding their specific uses is also helpful in distinguishing between different brass types.
3. Qualification Certificates: When purchasing brass, it is important to see the manufacturer's relevant certifications to understand the specific brass type.
In short, by comprehensively identifying brass based on its appearance, chemical composition, uses, and relevant certifications, we can accurately distinguish different types of brass, thereby better understanding and using brass materials.
