Copper tube advantages and maintenance methods

1. Advantages of Copper Tube

1.1 Resistance to Damage

Copper tube is hard and can withstand significant pressure, so it is not easily destroyed by external forces. This makes it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications, including fluid transport systems in the chemical, petroleum and pharmaceutical industries - and especially in water-supply systems, where long-term reliability is essential.

1.2 Strong Corrosion Resistance

Copper has good corrosion resistance and remains stable even under complex process conditions, resisting the effects of water chemistry, mild acids and atmospheric exposure far better than carbon steel pipe.

1.3 High Temperature and Pressure Resistance

Copper tube resists both high temperature and high pressure, which gives it important applications in HVAC, air-conditioning and industrial equipment. For hot and cold water supply, copper is regarded as one of the best pipe materials available.

2. Cleaning and Maintenance Methods

Copper tubes that have been stored or exposed to contamination should be cleaned and protected before installation. Follow these three steps:

Step 1: Soaking and Scrubbing

Fill a plastic basin with warm water and add dishwashing detergent. Place the copper tube in the basin and soak for several hours so that impurities inside soften. Then pass a brush attached to a flexible rod through the tube several times, pour out the dirty water, refill with clean water and repeat until the tube is clean.

Step 2: Disinfecting the Bore

Wrap sterilized gauze over the rod and pass it through the tube repeatedly, changing to fresh gauze each pass, until the gauze comes out clean. This removes residual dirt and prepares the bore for assembly.

Step 3: Applying Protective Oil

Apply protective oil to about half the length of the tube before assembly. As the tube is inserted, the oil is gradually squeezed toward the remaining half, so the whole bore is covered without waste. Apply more only if needed - avoid over-oiling, which creates excess residue inside the system.

3. The Role of Copper Tube in Refrigeration Equipment

Copper tube - copper that has been pressed or drawn - is the most important raw material in the manufacture of refrigeration equipment. It is used in two main ways:

  1. Making heat exchangers: the evaporator and condenser coils that form the heart of the refrigeration circuit.
  2. Producing connecting pipes and fittings: the refrigerant lines that link the components of the system.
  3.

In both uses the copper tube is the refrigerant channel, and its integrity directly determines the performance and leak-tightness of the system. This is why air-conditioning and refrigeration installation technicians must handle copper tube correctly - clean it before assembly, protect it against oxidation, and brace or flare joints to the manufacturer's procedure.
