What is a C71500 copper nickel tube?
Copper-nickel (also known as cupronickel) alloys offer excellent corrosion resistance to seawater and good fabricability. The addition of nickel to copper improves strength and corrosion resistance while allowing the alloy to remain ductile, other elements can be added to copper-nickel to increase strength, corrosion resistance, hardening, weldability and castability. The nickel-copper alloy has been widely used for r marine applications. C71500 copper alloy, often known as 70/30 copper-nickel, is the alloy with 70% copper and 30% nickel content(as well as C71640), it has higher nickel content than that of C70600 which are more highly alloyed with aluminum, chromium, or tin are used where greater resistance to seawater environments, sand abrasion, wear and galling, as well as higher mechanical properties, are required.

Applications
The 70-30 copper-nickel alloys have used saltwater and cover thermal desalination, offshore oil and gas, marine shipping, power generation and commercial. Copper-nickel alloys are also used for seawater cooling and firewater systems, hydraulic tubing, heat exchangers, evaporator Tubes and condensers, including brake tubing, platform riser and antimicrobial touch surfaces.
FAQ
Q: What are the most common applications for C71500 pipe?
A: Its primary use is in marine and offshore systems, including seawater piping, condensers, heat exchangers, hydraulic lines, and firefighting systems.
Q: Why is C71500 used in heat exchangers and condensers?
A: Its combination of excellent corrosion resistance, good fabricability, and low thermal conductivity (which helps maintain fluid temperature) makes it ideal for these critical components.
Q: How does the cost of C71500 compare to other corrosion-resistant alloys?
A: It is generally more cost-effective than high-nickel alloys like Alloy 400 (Monel) or super duplex stainless steels for long-term service in seawater, considering its lifespan and low maintenance.
Q: How should C71500 pipe be stored to prevent corrosion?
A: Store it in a clean, dry, and well-ventilated area. Avoid contact with carbon steel dust or chips, which can cause embedded iron corrosion (pitting).
Q: What cleaning methods are recommended for C71500 systems?
A: For new systems, a mild acidic clean (e.g., with sulfamic or citric acid) is often used to remove mill scale and promote the formation of a uniform protective film before commissioning. Avoid abrasive cleaners that can damage the surface.
