C70600 Copper Nickel Tube 90/10 CuNi Alloy for Marine & Industrial Applications

What is C70600 ?

UNS C70600 is a 90% copper and 10% nickel alloy with tiny traces of other elements such as iron and manganese.

C70600 copper-nickel is a copper-nickel alloy formulated for primary forming into wrought products. CW352H is the EN numeric designation for this material. C70600 is the UNS number. Additionally, the EN chemical designation is CuNi10Fe1Mn. The British Standard (BS) designation is CN102. And the common industry name is Cupronickel 10.

C70600 Copper-Nickel Tubes (CuNi 90/10) are high-strength, corrosion-resistant tubing solutions composed of 90% copper and 10% nickel, with small amounts of iron and manganese for enhanced seawater corrosion resistance, biofouling resistance, and durability. These tubes are widely used in marine, offshore, power generation, and industrial applications due to their excellent mechanical properties and longevity in harsh environments.

FAQ

1. What is the difference between C70600 and C71500?
C71500 has higher nickel content (30% vs 10%) and better corrosion resistance in aggressive seawater. C70600 (90/10) contains 90% copper and 10% nickel. C71500 (70/30) contains 70% copper and 30% nickel. C71500 is stronger and more resistant to high-velocity seawater, but C70600 is more affordable and easier to weld.

2. What are the equivalent standards for C70600?
C70600 equivalents are ASTM B466 (USA), BS CN102 (UK), DIN CuNi10Fe1Mn (Germany), JIS C7060 (Japan), and BG BFe10-1-1 (China). All these standards cover the same 90/10 copper-nickel alloy composition with Ni 9-11% and Fe 1.0-1.8%.

3. Can C70600 be welded?
Yes, C70600 has excellent weldability. Use TIG or MIG welding with ERCuNi filler metal. No preheating is needed for wall thickness under 1 inch. Clean the weld area thoroughly before welding and use argon shielding gas.

4. Is C70600 suitable for seawater cooling systems?
Yes, C70600 is the industry standard for seawater cooling systems. Its superior corrosion resistance and anti-biofouling properties make it ideal for marine condensers, heat exchangers, and ballast water lines.

5. What is the maximum operating temperature for C70600?
C70600 can operate continuously at up to 315°C (600°F). Above this temperature, strength decreases significantly. For higher temperature applications, consider C71500 or nickel-based alloys.

6. Does C70600 require heat treatment after welding?
No, post-weld heat treatment is generally not required. For thin sections (under 1 inch), welding without preheating or post-weld heat treatment is acceptable. Stress relief may be considered for heavy sections or critical applications.

7. What is C70600 used for in power plants?
C70600 is used for condenser tubes and heat exchanger tubes in thermal and nuclear power plants. It efficiently transfers heat while resisting corrosion from cooling water, including seawater and brackish water.

8. Is C70600 magnetic?
No, C70600 is non-magnetic. Neither copper (90%) nor nickel (10%) in this alloy creates magnetic properties. This makes C70600 suitable for applications near sensitive electronic equipment.

9. How does C70600 resist biofouling?
Copper ions released from the tube surface prevent marine organism attachment. This natural anti-biofouling property reduces maintenance costs and maintains heat exchange efficiency in marine environments.

10. What sizes does C70600 come in?
C70600 is available from 6mm to 300mm outer diameter, with wall thickness from 0.5mm to 10mm. Standard pressure ratings include Schedule 5, 10, 40, and 80. Custom sizes and coiled tubing are also available.

11. Is C70600 suitable for desalination plants?
Yes, C70600 is widely used in desalination plants for evaporator tubes and heat exchangers. Its excellent resistance to saline water and high temperatures makes it a reliable choice for both thermal and reverse osmosis desalination facilities.

12. What is the lead time for C70600 tubes from GNEE?
Standard sizes are available for immediate shipment from GNEE inventory. Custom sizes typically require 3-4 weeks for production. Urgent orders can be expedited upon request.
