How does C70600 compare to C71500 (70-30 CuNi)?
C70600 is more cost-effective with good all-around corrosion resistance. C71500 offers superior strength and better resistance to higher velocity seawater and erosion-corrosion, but at a higher cost.
Why is C70600 resistant to seawater?
It forms a thin, adherent, and protective surface oxide film that is stable in seawater. This film is a complex mixture of copper oxide and nickel and iron oxides, which heals itself if damaged.
What is the maximum service temperature for C70600?
The recommended maximum continuous service temperature is around 400°C (750°F). Prolonged exposure to higher temperatures can lead to embrittlement.
Can C70600 withstand freezing temperatures?
Yes, it retains excellent toughness and ductility at cryogenic temperatures, making it suitable for LNG and other low-temperature applications.
