C68700 Aluminum Brass Tube PDF
Products Description
Aluminium brass tubes have a combination of high strength and general corrosion resistance, as well as a low susceptibility to stress corrosion cracking, makes it a preferred choice for a variety of applications. The tubes may also be heat treated and utilised in hard drawing circumstances, ensuring that they are stress corrosion fracture free. These ASTM B111 UNS C68700 SMLS tubes are used in various application industries like Petroleum, chemical, power, gas, water, metallurgy, shipbuilding, construction, etc.
Chemical Composition
C68700 is a high-performance copper alloy belonging to the aluminum brass series. Its main chemical components include copper (Cu), aluminum (Al), iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), and trace amounts of other elements. A typical composition is: approximately 76%-79% copper, 1.8%-2.5% aluminum, 0.05%-0.25% iron, 0.8%-2.5% nickel, with the balance being zinc (Zn). The addition of aluminum significantly improves the alloy's corrosion resistance and strength, while the combined effect of nickel and iron further optimizes its resistance to stress cracking and wear resistance.

Physical and Mechanical Properties
- Strength and Hardness: Tensile strength can reach 450-600 MPa, and hardness (HB) is approximately 120-180, superior to ordinary brass and approaching the level of some bronze alloys.
- Corrosion Resistance: Performs excellently in seawater, freshwater, and industrial atmospheric environments, especially resistant to dezincification corrosion and stress corrosion cracking, suitable for long-term exposure to humid or salt spray environments.
- Processing properties: It has good hot workability (e.g., hot rolling, forging) and cold workability (e.g., stamping, stretching), and its plasticity can be improved through annealing.
- Thermal and electrical conductivity: The electrical conductivity is approximately 20%-30% IACS, which is better than that of stainless steel, making it suitable for applications requiring both heat dissipation and corrosion resistance.

FAQ
1. Q: What is C68700?
A: C68700 is a copper-zinc alloy known as Aluminum Brass, which contains arsenic for superior resistance to dezincification in seawater environments.
2. Q: What is the chemical composition of C68700?
A: The typical composition is Copper (Cu) 77.5-80.5%, Aluminum (Al) 1.8-2.5%, Arsenic (As) 0.02-0.06%, with the remainder being Zinc (Zn) and other trace elements.
3. Q: What are the key properties of C68700?
A: C68700 offers excellent corrosion resistance to seawater, high resistance to dezincification, good erosion-corrosion resistance, and moderate biofouling resistance.
4. Q: Why is arsenic added to C68700?
A: Arsenic is added in small quantities to C68700 to effectively inhibit dezincification, a form of selective leaching where zinc is corroded out of the brass alloy.
5. Q: Is C68700 suitable for seawater service?
A: Yes, C68700 is specifically designed for and performs exceptionally well in seawater, brackish water, and other chloride-containing environments.
