ASTM B111 C70600 (C706) & C71500 (C715), Copper nickel offers excellent corrosion resistance, especially in marine salt water environments. The main, wrought copper-nickel alloys chosen for sea water service contain 10 or 30 percent nickel. They also have important additions of iron and manganese which are necessary to maintain good corrosion resistance. Some of the primary uses for C706 include copper nickel fittings (CuNi Fittings) as well as condensers and exchanger shells.
The physical properties of ASTM B111 C70600 are as follows:
• Density: 8.94 g/cm³
• Melting point: approx. 1149°C, approx. 2140°F (approx. 1171°C)
• Thermal conductivity: 50.2 W/(m·K) (at 20°C)
• Coefficient of thermal expansion: 13.9 × 10⁻⁶ m/(m·K) (20-300°C)
• Electrical conductivity: approx. 7.50 MS/m (at 20°C)
Mechanical properties: The mechanical properties of ASTM B111 C70600 include:
• Tensile strength: ≥ 380 MPa¹², minimum 310 MPa at 20°C
• Yield strength: ≥ 140 MPa¹², minimum 140 MPa at 20°C
• Elongation: ≥ 30% 12, minimum 40% (at a 2-inch gauge length)
· Hardness: ≤ 120 HV
