C68700 belongs to brass, specifically aluminum brass. The two most critical elements in its chemical composition are aluminum (approximately 1.8% - 2.5%) and arsenic (approximately 0.02% - 0.10%). The core role of aluminum is to form a dense, high-strength, and highly adherent aluminum oxide protective film on the surface of C68700. This film significantly enhances the tube's resistance to erosion corrosion and fatigue corrosion in flowing seawater, brackish water, and other media. Meanwhile, the addition of aluminum effectively prevents the selective dissolution of zinc in environments containing chloride ions, low pH, and high temperatures, greatly inhibiting dezincification corrosion while also increasing the strength and hardness of C68700. The addition of arsenic is to inhibit dezincification corrosion, as arsenic, regardless of its content, forms a protective barrier layer on the metal surface, further enhancing its resistance to dezincification corrosion.
