ASTM B111 C23000 copper alloy (also known as 85 copper or red brass) is a copper-zinc alloy containing approximately 85% copper and 15% zinc. Due to its distinctive red appearance, excellent mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance, it is widely used in architectural decoration, electrical connections, and artwork. The following is a detailed introduction to C23000 copper alloy.
Physical Properties of ASTM B111 C23000 Type K Copper Tubing
Density and Melting Point: Density is 8.75 g/cm³, melting point is approximately 990-1000°C, suitable for medium-temperature applications.
Electrical and Thermal Conductivity: Electrical conductivity is approximately 28% IACS, thermal conductivity is approximately 110 W/(m·K), suitable for applications with moderate electrical conductivity and heat dissipation requirements.
Mechanical Properties:
Tensile strength is approximately 290-340 MPa, elongation δ10 is 25%-35%, and it offers both strength and ductility. Hardness HV70-80, which can be further increased by cold working.
Chemical Properties of ASTM B111 C23000 Copper Pipe for AC
Corrosion Resistance: Excellent in dry air, fresh water, and weakly acidic environments. However, long-term exposure to humid, sulfuric environments can easily lead to the formation of patina (basic copper carbonate).
Oxidation Resistance: The surface oxide film is dense, which retards further oxidation, making it suitable for outdoor decorative applications.

Processing and Heat Treatment of ASTM B111 C23000 Copper Pipe for Soldering
Processing Performance:
Excellent cold working properties make it suitable for forming processes such as stamping and bending. It is commonly used in decorative panels and precision components.
Welding performance is good (brazing, gas shielded welding), but hot working must avoid zinc volatilization (temperature must be kept below 650°C).
Heat Treatment Process:
Annealing Temperature: 450-550°C (for stress relief and plasticity restoration).
Applications of ASTM B111 C23000 copper tube
Architectural decoration: Used in roofs, curtain walls, door handles, and other applications, combining aesthetics with weather resistance.
Electrical industry: Used in the manufacture of components with medium conductivity requirements, such as sockets and switch contacts.
Artwork: Used in sculptures, medals, and crafts, utilizing its red luster and ease of processing.
Other applications: Used in corrosion-resistant structural components such as heat exchanger tubing and marine fittings.
C23000 copper alloy, with its balanced performance and distinctive red appearance, has become a key material in architecture and the arts.
