What Is C44300
C44300 copper tube is a copper-zinc-tin alloy, admiralty brass or arsenical brass, with excellent corrosion resistance, thermal conductivity, and mechanical properties. It is widely used in heat exchangers, condensers, ship pipelines, oil and gas equipment, and other industrial fields.
Chemical Composition
The composition is copper 69.0 to 73.0 percent, tin 0.8 to 1.3 percent to enhance corrosion resistance, zinc as balance usually 25 to 29 percent, arsenic 0.02 to 0.06 percent to inhibit dezincification corrosion, lead 0.05 percent maximum, iron 0.10 percent maximum, nickel 0.5 percent maximum, and total impurities 0.3 percent maximum.
Mechanical Properties
In the annealed condition the tensile strength is 290 to 360 MPa with yield of 105 to 165 MPa and elongation of at least 40 percent. Quarter-hard provides 340 to 420 MPa, half-hard 380 to 490 MPa, hard 430 to 530 MPa, and extra-hard 490 to 600 MPa, with elongation decreasing from 30 percent to 8 percent across the tempers.
Physical Properties
Density is 8.53 g per cubic centimeter, melting range is about 900 to 940 degrees C, thermal conductivity is 64 to 110 W per meter per Kelvin, and electrical conductivity is 25 to 28 percent IACS.
Standards and Sizes
Core standards include ASTM B111 and ASME SB111 for seamless condenser tubes, BS EN 12451, JIS H3300, and DIN 1785, with related standards ASTM B395 and ASTM B251. Outer diameters range from 5 to 100 mm with common condenser sizes of 8 to 76 mm, wall thicknesses of 0.5 to 25 mm with typical heat exchanger walls of 0.5 to 6 mm, and single or double random lengths.
Applications
C44300 condenser tubes are used in power station condensers, evaporators, heat exchangers, shipboard piping, and oil and gas equipment where fresh or brackish cooling water is present and dezincification resistance is required.
