Copper wire has several unique properties; once it is bent, it stays that way, and it is very difficult to bend it out of shape.
The only way to make copper wire pliable again is through a process called annealing, which is just a fancy way of saying, heat it up.
Annealing copper wire is not difficult; you will need some newspaper or other lightweight paper, and a safe place (preferably outside) that is out of the wind.
Wrap the paper around a few pieces of recycled copper wire - this is the kind used for household electrical wiring, usually with some sort of insulation and a rubbery plastic sheath.
This can be peeled off as carefully as you would peel a banana.
Now that your wire is wrapped in paper, place the paper over the fire. Be careful and have a fire extinguisher or bucket of water on hand.
Once the paper is burned off, the wire is annealed, and will remain pliable until it is bent again. This process can be used on the same wire multiple times with no ill effects.
Carefully wrap the wire around the spool; once it is bent, it will become rigid again, so gentle persuasion is best.
