Soft (or ductile) copper tubing can be easily bent to bypass obstacles in the piping. Although work-hardening during drawing hardens copper tubing, it softens again after careful annealing; therefore, soft copper tubing is more expensive to produce than unannealed hard copper tubing. Soft copper tubing is the only type of copper tubing that is suitable for flared connections. Soft copper tubing is the most commonly used tubing for refrigerant lines in split air conditioners and heat pumps.
