ASTM B68 specifies requirements for bright annealed seamless copper tubing suitable for use in refrigeration, oil, and gasoline tubing where tubing is required to have an interior surface essentially free of scale and dirt. This copper tubing shall be manufactured by hot or cold working processes to produce a uniform and consistent forged structure in the finished product. The copper tubing shall be cold drawn to the finished size and wall thickness and shall be bright annealed to the specified tempering temperature. Copper tubes shall meet the specified chemical composition requirements and the tubes shall be annealed at either of two annealing temperatures (bright annealed or soft annealed). Grain size and mechanical properties such as tensile strength and elongation shall be determined. The material shall be subjected to expansion and compression tests to evaluate its properties. Electromagnetic or eddy current tests, which are non-destructive, should also be performed.
