What is H96 brass?
H96 brass is a copper-zinc alloy with a copper content of 96.0% - 98.0% and a density of 8.85 g/cm³.
Properties of H96 Brass
Mechanical Properties
Strength: Higher than pure copper but the lowest among ordinary brass alloys. Its tensile strength varies depending on the delivery condition and material form. For example:
Copper rods in (Y) state, with diameters of 3–80 mm, have a tensile strength Rm/MPa (≥205–275).
Copper rods delivered in (M) state have a tensile strength Rm/MPa (≥200).
Copper plates in (M) state, with thicknesses of 0.3–10 mm, have a tensile strength Rm/MPa (≥215).
Copper plates delivered in (Y) state have a tensile strength Rm/MPa (≥320).
Hardness: 50–70 HB (Brinell Hardness).
Fatigue Performance:
The fatigue limit is approximately 50%–60% of its tensile strength.
Under a stress amplitude of 140 MPa, it can withstand over 10⁷ cycles without fracturing.
In strain-controlled fatigue tests, under low strain amplitudes, the fatigue life can reach millions of cycles.
In terms of fatigue crack growth rate, under ΔK (stress intensity factor range) of 20 MPa√m, the fatigue crack growth rate is approximately 2.5×10⁻⁶ m/cycle.
Physical Properties
Electrical and Thermal Conductivity:
Electrical conductivity: 28% IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard).
Good thermal conductivity, suitable for manufacturing various conductive and heat-dissipating components, such as electrical connectors, radiators, and heat exchangers.
Color: Pure copper is rose-red in color and appears purple after forming a copper oxide film on the surface. The color of H96 brass is related to its copper content. Due to its high copper content, its color is close to that of pure copper.
Chemical Properties
Corrosion Resistance: Exhibits excellent corrosion resistance in atmospheric, freshwater, and certain acidic environments, primarily due to its high copper content.
Processing Performance
Good hot and cold workability, excellent plasticity, easy to process through cold and hot pressure methods, and easy to form, weld, forge, and tin-plate. It has no tendency for stress corrosion cracking.
Applications of H96 Brass
In the construction field, it is used to manufacture building profiles, door and window frames, etc.
In mechanical manufacturing, it is commonly used to produce mechanical parts, valves, pipes, bolts, etc. It is also suitable for manufacturing medium-speed, heavy-load bearings (maximum operating temperature: 250°C), with features such as self-alignment, insensitivity to misalignment, uniform load distribution on bearings, high load-bearing capacity, ability to withstand radial loads simultaneously, and self-lubrication without maintenance.
In electronic and electrical equipment, it is widely used as elastic materials for electronic and electrical devices and structural materials for integrated circuit leads. It is also used to manufacture conductive components such as electrical connectors. Phosphor bronze (an alloy related to H96 brass) sockets with hardwired electrical structures, featuring rivetless connections or frictionless contacts, ensure good contact, excellent elasticity, and smooth insertion and removal.
In the automotive manufacturing field, it also finds certain applications, such as in the manufacturing of certain automotive components, leveraging its good workability, corrosion resistance, and moderate strength.

Copper product packaging
