It complies with US standards such as ASTM B150/B169. Its core characteristics are a balanced combination of high strength, corrosion resistance, and wear resistance, along with excellent thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, and processability. This material maintains stable performance in both high-temperature (long-term temperature resistance of 400°C) and low-temperature environments, making it a popular choice for marine engineering, chemical equipment, and heavy machinery.

Mechanical Properties
High strength and toughness: Tensile strength of 460-620 MPa, yield strength of 180-275 MPa, elongation of 25-40%, and hardness of 110-170 HB. The high aluminum content and the addition of iron form hard phases (such as FeAl₃), significantly improving wear and impact resistance, making it suitable for high-load dynamic components.
Fatigue Resistance: Maintains structural stability under cyclic stress, making it suitable for parts such as bearings and gears that must withstand long-term alternating loads.
Corrosion Resistance
Excellent resistance to seawater, acidic media (such as sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid), and industrial atmospheres, surpassing the corrosion resistance of ordinary brass and stainless steel. Aluminum forms a dense oxide film (Al₂O₃) on the surface, blocking the penetration of corrosive media. This makes it particularly suitable for salt spray environments such as ship propellers and seawater pipelines.
Thermal and Electrical Conductivity
With a thermal conductivity of 65 W/m·K and an electrical conductivity of 8 MS/m, it offers both thermal management and current conduction capabilities, making it suitable for applications requiring efficient heat transfer, such as heat exchangers and electrical connectors.
Processability
Hot and Cold Workability: It supports forming processes such as casting, forging, extrusion, and stamping. Hot working temperatures must be controlled between 700-850°C to prevent grain coarsening.
Weldability: It can be welded by electric and gas welding, but brazing is poor. Inert gas shielded welding (such as TIG) is recommended to reduce oxidation and thermal cracking.
Machinability: Iron-containing versions exhibit slightly inferior machinability to ordinary copper alloys, requiring the use of carbide tools and controlled cooling rates.
Processing of ASTM B111 C61400 Aircon Copper Pipe
Smelting Control: The raw materials must be precisely proportioned (aluminum content deviation ≤ 0.2%), melted at 1100-1200°C, and a deoxidizer (such as phosphor copper) must be added to reduce porosity. Casting Optimization: Use centrifugal casting or metal mold casting. Preheat the mold to 200-300°C to reduce internal stress. The cooling rate should be uniform to avoid shrinkage cavities and segregation.
Heat Treatment Strengthening: Solution treatment (900-950°C) plus age hardening can improve strength, but avoid the temper brittleness range of 300-400°C. Forgings require slow cooling or dehydrogenation annealing to eliminate white spot sensitivity.
