Copper Alloy 120 | Product Properties & Composition

What is TP1/C12000 copper?

C12000 copper alloy, classified under the Unified Numbering System (UNS) in the United States, is a phosphorus-deoxidized copper containing a specific amount of phosphorus, which imparts excellent oxidation resistance during welding and heating processes. This alloy typically consists of approximately 99.9% copper and 0.004% to 0.012% phosphorus. This unique composition provides it with distinct physical and chemical properties, making it highly useful in numerous industrial applications.

C12000 copper Characteristics:

Good Electrical Conductivity: Although the electrical conductivity of C12000 is slightly lower than that of C11000 electrolytic copper, it still offers excellent conductive performance suitable for most electrical applications.

Excellent Corrosion Resistance: The addition of phosphorus enhances the corrosion resistance of copper, allowing C12000 to perform better in certain corrosive environments.

Good Workability and Weldability: C12000 can be processed using conventional metalworking techniques. During welding, it is less prone to porosity, thereby improving weld quality.

Oxidation Resistance: The phosphorus content provides C12000 with good oxidation resistance during heating processes, especially when working without a protective atmosphere.

C12000 copper Application Areas:

Electrical Industry: Used in the manufacture of wires, cables, electrical connectors, and switches.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC): Used as piping material in HVAC systems, particularly in applications that require welding.

Construction Industry: Used for architectural decoration, roofing materials, and piping systems.

Industrial Manufacturing: Used as material for heat exchangers, condenser tubes, and other industrial components.

C12000 copper Processing and Maintenance:

Processing: C12000 copper alloy is easy to work with and can be forged, welded, cast, and cold-worked, among other processes.

Maintenance: Despite its good corrosion resistance, regular inspection and proper maintenance are still necessary in extreme or specific corrosive environments to preserve its performance and extend its service life.
