What is TP1/C12000 copper?
C12000 Coil is a phosphor bronze material with a variety of applications and properties. According to the evidence, C12000 Coil is mainly used in air conditioning and refrigeration equipment to manufacture copper tubes for heat exchange to improve heat exchange efficiency, corrosion resistance and reduce wall thickness.
The size range and international standard information of C12000 copper coil/strip are as follows:
Thickness range
Conventional sheet: According to ASTM standards, the thickness range is usually 1/4 inch (6.35mm) to 3/4 inch (19.05mm), but it can be adjusted according to customer needs.
Copper tape for cable: The Chinese national standard (GB) stipulates a thickness of 0.05 to 1.5mm, which is suitable for power, fireproof cables and other scenarios.
Brass coil: The customized product provided by the manufacturer can reach a width of 5 to 1000mm and a coil weight of 3 to 8 tons, but the specific thickness is not clearly stated.
Width and length
Ordinary sheet width can reach ≤3000mm and length ≤6000mm (Chinese standard).
The width of copper tape for cable is 10 to 305mm, the inner diameter of the coil is 610/560mm, and the outer diameter of the coil is ≤1100mm (GB standard).
European standard (EN12735-2:2001) stipulates that the outer diameter of the coil is 900-1250mm, the inner diameter is 560-630mm, and the height is 150-340mm.
Coil weight
The weight range of a single coil varies greatly, ranging from 80-250kg (EN standard) to 3-8 tons (customized products by manufacturers).
International standard
ASTM standard
ASTM B75: Applicable to seamless copper tubes, C12000 is phosphorus deoxidized copper with low residual phosphorus content, and the tube size must meet the requirements of the cold drawing process.
ASTM B152/B187: Covering the specifications of copper plates and strips, C12000 corresponds to SAE specification CA120, requiring the logo to be printed on hard straight tubes (such as blue stripes, outer diameter and country of origin).
Chinese Standard (GB)
GB/T 2059-2000: specifies the mechanical properties of C12000 strip (tensile strength ≥ 295MPa, elongation ≥ 3%), thickness ≥ 0.3mm.
GB/T 17791-2008: Cable copper strip requires transportation information to be marked, roll inner diameter 610/560mm, roll outer diameter ≤ 1100mm.
European Standard (EN)
EN12735-2:2001: Coil weight 80~250kg, outer diameter 900~1250mm, inner diameter 560~630mm.

Chemical Composition
Main ingredients:
Copper (Cu): content ≥99.90% (with other elements the sum does not exceed 0.1%).
Phosphorus (P): content ranges from 0.004% to 0.012% (some standards such as ASTM B152/B152M-2019 stipulate 0.004% to 0.035%). The role of phosphorus is deoxidation, improving weldability and corrosion resistance.
Impurity elements (extremely low content, usually not exceeding the following limits):
Lead (Pb), iron (Fe), nickel (Ni), antimony (Sb), arsenic (As), bismuth (Bi), sulfur (S), etc.: total impurity content ≤0.1%, and the content of each element alone is usually ≤0.02%.
Oxygen (O): controlled by phosphorus deoxidation process, the residual content is extremely low.
Mechanical properties
Tensile strength (σb): ≥295 MPa (room temperature tensile properties of the strip)
Elongation (δ10): ≥3% (reflects the plasticity of the material)
Hardness:
Annealed state: about 55~80 HV (Vickers hardness)
Cold working state: up to 80~100 HV
Other properties:
Good cold bending and welding properties, suitable for pipeline forming
No tendency to "hydrogen disease", can be used in reducing atmosphere
Physical properties:
Electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity: high, but the addition of phosphorus makes it slightly lower than pure copper
Corrosion resistance: good performance in fresh water, sea water and general atmospheric environment, but susceptible to nitric acid and sulfur-containing media
FAQ
Q: What's the maximum continuous service temperature for C12000?
A: Typically up to about 150–200°C (302–392°F) for long-term service. Short-term exposure can go higher, but annealing and softening will occur above ~250°C (482°F).
Q: How should C12000 tubes be stored to prevent oxidation?
A: Store in a dry, covered area. For long-term storage or in humid climates, sealed plastic wrapping or nitrogen purging is recommended to prevent surface tarnishing.
Q: Can C12000 be bent easily?
A: Yes, especially in the annealed temper. For hard temper tubes, bending may require a mechanical bender to avoid kinking or cracking.
Q: What is the difference between TP1 (C12000) and TP2 (C12200) copper?
A: TP1 (C12000) and TP2 (C12200) are both phosphorus-deoxidized coppers, but they differ in residual phosphorus content: TP1 (C12000): Low residual phosphorus (0.004–0.012%). Designed for applications requiring high conductivity and good weldability, such as heat exchangers and electrical components. TP2 (C12200): Higher phosphorus content (0.015–0.040%). Offers improved weldability and brazability due to better deoxidation, but has slightly lower electrical conductivity (~80% IACS). Commonly used in plumbing, HVAC, and piping systems where welding/brazing is critical. Key takeaway: TP1 prioritizes conductivity, while TP2 prioritizes weldability and brazing performance.
