FAQ
1. What is C70600 material?
C70600 is a 90/10 copper-nickel alloy (approximately 90% Cu, 10% Ni, with a small amount of Fe and Mn). It is known for its excellent seawater corrosion resistance, excellent anti-biofouling performance, good mechanical strength and welding processability. It is widely used in marine heat exchangers, ship cooling pipelines, seawater desalination and seawater circulation systems of oil and gas platforms.
2. What is the difference between nickel, copper, and copper-nickel?
Nickel is a silvery-white, hard, ferromagnetic metal known for its high strength, toughness and resistance to high‐temperature oxidation, while copper is a soft, reddish metal prized for its excellent electrical and thermal conductivity; copper-nickel (Cu-Ni) alloys combine the two-typically 10–30% Ni in Cu-offering a balance of good conductivity with greatly enhanced strength, toughness and especially corrosion resistance (notably in seawater), making them ideal for marine and heat‐exchanger applications.
3. What are the disadvantages of copper nickel?
Copper-nickel is much more expensive than ordinary copper or steel, has lower thermal and electrical conductivity than pure copper, is susceptible to stress corrosion cracking in ammonia-rich or sulfide environments, has limited strength and hardness compared to steel (requiring thicker sections), and may corrode galvanically when combined with more noble metals, all of which can limit their use in high-stress, high-temperature, or chemically aggressive environments.
