Cupronickel is an alloy with low resistivity, good heat resistance, corrosion resistance, good processing performance and good lead welding performance. It is used to manufacture thermal overload relays, low resistance thermal circuit breakers, key components in electrical appliances, and is also an important material for electric heating cables, similar to S-type cupronickel.
CuNi44 has high resistivity and very low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR). Due to its low TCR, it can be used in wirewound precision resistors that can operate up to 400°C (750°F). This alloy is also capable of generating a high and constant electromotive force when combined with copper. This property makes it useful in thermocouples, thermocouple extension wire, and compensating leads. It is easily solderable and has good corrosion resistance in atmospheric conditions.
