What is H96 Brass?

H96 Brass is a copper-zinc alloy containing approximately 96% copper and 4% zinc. It is also known as C21000 alloy under the UNS system. It is the purest commercial form of brass (often called "red brass" or "rich low brass"), offering high ductility and excellent electrical/thermal conductivity.

H96 Brass Features

High Electrical and Thermal Conductivity: Conductivity close to pure copper (about 90% IACS), suitable for electronic and electrical applications.

Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Strong corrosion resistance in atmospheric and freshwater environments, with no tendency for stress corrosion cracking.

Good Processability: Easy to cold/hot press, supports welding, forging, tin plating, and other processes.

Moderate Strength: The lowest strength among common brass, but higher than pure copper, with tensile strength ≥205-320 MPa.

FAQ

What are the key properties of H96 Brass Strip?
Key properties include:

Excellent Ductility & Formability: Ideal for deep drawing, bending, and other cold-working processes.

High Electrical & Thermal Conductivity: The highest among common brass alloys, close to pure copper.

Good Corrosion Resistance: Particularly resistant to stress corrosion cracking and performs well in various atmospheres and freshwater.

Weldability & Solderability: Excellent for soldering, brazing, and most welding processes.

Color: Distinctive reddish-copper color due to its high copper content.

Non-Magnetic & Non-Sparking.

How does H96 differ from more common brass like C26000 (70/30 brass)?
C26000 (70% Cu, 30% Zn) is a standard "cartridge brass" known for excellent cold-working ability and strength. H96 (96% Cu) has significantly lower strength and hardness but superior electrical/thermal conductivity, better corrosion resistance (especially to dezincification), and higher ductility. It is softer and more malleable than C26000.

What tempers or hardnesses are available for H96 Brass Strip?
H96 strip is typically supplied in various cold-rolled tempers, such as:

Annealed (O): Soft, fully ductile state for severe forming.

Quarter Hard (1/4H), Half Hard (1/2H), Hard (H): Progressively higher strength and spring properties achieved by cold rolling after annealing.

Can H96 Brass Strip be welded?
Yes, H96 has excellent weldability. Common methods include:

Soldering & Brazing: Excellent and highly recommended.

Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG): Preferred for arc welding.

Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG): Also suitable.

Resistance Welding (Spot/Seam): Can be performed successfully.

Does H96 Brass corrode or tarnish?
Like all copper alloys, H96 will develop a natural patina (tarnish) over time when exposed to air and moisture. This patina can range from subtle darkening to a greenish hue in severe outdoor environments. It offers good general corrosion resistance but is not recommended for prolonged exposure to acidic environments, ammonia, or strong alkalis.

Our packaging

Our factory adopts industrial-standard packaging solutions to ensure complete safety and protection of products from dispatch to delivery. All H96 brass strips are first wrapped with anti-rust paper or vapor corrosion inhibitor (VCI) film, then securely fixed on wooden or steel pallets. The entire load is further covered with high-strength waterproof and moisture-proof plastic film and heat-shrunk for reinforcement. Each pallet is labeled with clear and durable tags indicating product specifications, batch numbers, weight, and shipping information. For materials with precise surface requirements, we offer customized liner protection and edge protection solutions, ensuring that the products maintain their pristine condition and superior quality even after long-distance transportation and multiple transfers.
