This is a result of the precipitation of copper telluride within the C145 microstructure, which produces short chips. Copper telluride is also a highly conductive material, making it suitable for use in the electrical industry.

C145 falls into the category of free-machining coppers, with machinability far exceeding that of pure copper. Pure copper is rated at 20% machinability, while this alloy is rated at 85%, allowing for faster machining and longer tool life. This is due to the precipitation of copper telluride in the C145 microstructure, which produces short chips.
