Features
Hot Working
The hot workability of Copper Alloy 145 is excellent, requiring only moderate power during machining. Its hot forgeability rating of 65 (closed die only) is slightly lower than forging brasses, which are arbitrarily rated at 100. However, it is this quality that makes it suitable for forming closed die hot forged products that require excellent electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance. In its hard state, this alloy retains its strength at higher temperatures than leaded copper, enabling it to be used in relatively warm environments. In addition, it exhibits excellent hot workability, allowing it to be easily formed at temperatures above what other free-cutting coppers can withstand.
Cold Working
Copper 145 also has good cold working capabilities, although its ductility is slightly lower than pure copper, and its cold heading capabilities are moderate.
Joining and Fabrication
Alloy C14500 joins readily by brazing and welding, but has fair ratings for oxyacetylene and gas shielded arc welding, and resistance butt welding. Spot and seam resistance welding are not recommended.
