CuNi30Fe1Mn Copper Nickel offers excellent corrosion resistance, especially in marine salt water environments. The main, wrought copper-nickel alloys chosen for sea water service contain 10 or 30 percent nickel. They also have important additions of iron and manganese which are necessary to maintain good corrosion resistance. Some common applications for copper nickel include: valves, pump components, fittings, flanges and various other marine hardware components.

Copper-nickel alloys were originally developed specifically for seawater and marine applications, for use in condensers and piping systems.

There are two main types of copper-nickel alloys, 90/10 and 70/30, both of which are copper-based alloys with either 10% or 30% nickel content, respectively.

The corrosion resistance of copper-nickel alloys to seawater stems from a thin, adherent protective film that forms when in contact with clean seawater.
This material is commonly used in desalination units, commercial/naval transport, and the oil and gas market due to its high strength, resistance to seawater corrosion, and resistance to biofouling in saline environments.
In addition to the material's resistance to seawater corrosion, these alloys are also recognized to have inherent resistance to macrofouling.
This property reduces the need for biocide dosing in seawater systems and condensers, and it also reduces drag and cleaning regimes when used in other applications in the offshore power and marine industries.
These alloys contain very important but small amounts of manganese and iron, which have been selected to provide the best combination of resistance to flowing seawater and corrosion resistance.
